What do the RedCoats do?
RedCoats work in a variety of positions: ushers, ticket takers, door directors, tour bus greeters and wheelchair assistants. They also provide assistance in our administrative offices.

What type of commitment is expected of RedCoats?
RedCoats are asked to work 4 to 5 hours during the same time slot each week as scheduled. Most volunteer positions require a person to be able to stand for up to two hours. The commitment to volunteer should be viewed as a part-time job. PlayhouseSquare expects the same high standards of professionalism from its RedCoats as it does from its paid staff members. Each new RedCoat must attend orientation and follow-up training sessions.

When do RedCoats work?
RedCoats receive advance schedules of their assignments. Matinee crews may be scheduled anytime between 9:00AM and 5:00PM Tuesday - Sunday. Evening crews may be scheduled anytime between 5:00PM and 11:00PM Tuesday - Sunday. Administrative needs and special event times may vary.

Where do RedCoats park?
Transportation and parking are the responsibility of the RedCoats. Discounted parking is available.

What is the RedCoats' uniform?
The red jackets that give the RedCoats their name can be borrowed from PlayhouseSquare each time a volunteer is on duty or jackets can be purchased for those who prefer to own them. The RedCoats's own black slacks/skirts, solid white shirts with collars, and black shoes complete the uniform.

Do RedCoats see PlayhouseSquare shows for free?
RedCoats do not receive a "free" ticket to see shows. Although RedCoats working in the theaters during performances may often see all or part of a performance, there is no guarantee. Guests may not accompany ushers to the theaters during their working hours.

PlayhouseSquare is proud of its dedicated and invaluable team of RedCoats, who help us to entertain over one million guests annually. Each year PlayhouseSquare celebrates the RedCoats with their own RedCoat Recognition Event.
